Is it mandatory to use a locking hitch pin?

No, but we highly recommend it. A locking hitch will key-lock your hitch cargo carrier, hitch rack or bike rack to your vehicle, thereby prevent theft. If you're ready to invest 100s of dollars in a car cargo carrier or bike hitch rack, we recommend spending the extra $14.95 to protect your investment!

What is the Hitch-Coupling Tightener?

The hitch-coupling tightener is a new kind of tightening device. Unlike most hitch tighteners, it does not operate by going through the hitch pin hole. Instead, it braces your hitch carrier or hitch rack's frame by clamping around the outside of it. This external location provides a great deal of support to the frame and is very, very effective in reducing any wobble or rattle that you might experience while driving. especially on heavier loads.

How do I know what kind of electrical system my vehicle has?

Most SUVs come standard with what is called a "Flat 4" system. If you look at the input on your vehicle, you should see a rectangle with 4 contact points aligned in a row if you have a Flat 4. There are also "4 Round", "6 Round" and "7 Round" systems. A 4 Round system has a 2x2 grid of contact points. A 6 Round system has a circle of 5 contact points with the 6th contact point inside the circle. A 7 Round system has a circle of 6 contact points with the 7th contact point inside the circle. Most hitch cargo carriers and racks that have tail lights will use a 4 Flat system. If you find that your vehicle has a round setup (4 pin, 6 pin or 7 pin), be sure to purchase the appropriate adapter to ensure that the tail lights on your hitch carrier or hitch rack will function properly.
