I've tried a number of different canoe rack options over the years including crossbar pads, gunwale mounts etc. I decided to splurge and try this approach so I could use it to cartop a small boat as well as our canoe. After 1 season of use, I've been very pleased with it. It is relatively easy to mount, and is well built from heavy-duty materials. Popping it open to release the rollers makes it very easy to load even our fairly heavy 16' canoe by myself. Once it is up and in place everything locks down and I'm quite confident that everything will stay where I put it. We went with extended Inno 64" Crossbars as our factory bars on the Xterra weren't wide enough. These work well to get the boat roller narrow enough for our canoe, and wide enough to fit a 12' aluminum fishing boat. This Inno Boat Rollerhas worked well for us whether we're headed down the freeway or 4-wheeling to a quiet lake.
