Tailgate Clearance Guide
StowAway2 has designed multiple carriers that will allow StowAway2 owners to access the bed of their truck with a StowAway2 Cargo Carrier attached.
The determining factor in whether a StowAway2 Cargo Carrier can accommodate your truck’s tailgate is obviously clearance.
To determine the necessary clearance for your vehicle, we ask that you measure the horizontal distance from the center of your hitch pin hole backwards to the back edge of the open tailgate. Below is a visual diagram to help you perform this measurement. The needed measurement is denoted “X” and marked in red.
StowAway2 Swingaway models can generally accommodate vehicles with tailgates whose X distance is 25.5 inches or less. This distance reflects the maximum clearance that Swingaway carriers offer when swung out to the 90 degree position.
