Spare Tire Clearance Guide
StowAway2 has designed multiple carriers that will accommodate rear-mounted spare tires and ladders. The determining factor in whether a StowAway2 cargo carrier can accommodate your vehicle’s rear-mounted spare tire or ladder is obviously clearance.
To determine the necessary clearance for your vehicle, measure the horizontal distance from the center of your hitch pin hole backwards to the back edge of the spare tire or ladder. Below you will find a visual diagram. The horizontal distance that we need to know is marked “X”.
StowAway2 Swingaway models can generally accommodate vehicles with spare tires or ladders whose X distance is 14 inches or less.
The fixed frame Spare Tire Model can generally accommodate vehicles with spare tires or ladders whose X distance is 11.5 inches or less. Note: The Spare Tire Model only works with vehicles that have Class III or Class IV hitches.
Other StowAway2 fixed frame models cannot generally accommodate vehicles with spare tires or ladders, unless their X distance is 2.5 inches or less.
