CargoRoof Carriers, Racks + Bags

Roof Carriers, Roof Racks and Roof Bags

Thule Racks, Yakima Racks and the other major racks companies have so many roof top cargo carrying solutions, we've divided their roof rack product catalogues up into 3 categories.

1.  Car Roof Carriers -- These enclosed roof top carriers are made from ABS and are offered in a ton of sizes, shapes and colors.
2.  Car Roof Racks -- Basket Racks offer open space above the vehicle to carry large, bulky items like suitcases, yet most can still accommodate roof bike, snow and water racks. Thule and Yakima roof baskets are listed below; Surco Roof Basket Racks are coming soon.
3.  Car Roof Bags -- Soft-sided Cargo Bags are a great, inexpensive alternative to enclosed cargo carriers.  Check these out if you are looking for an easy-on and easy-off cargo carrier solution.

More information about selecting a Roof Carrier, Roof Rack or Roof bag

Thule Racks and Yakima Racks have car top storage covered. Deciding which of their roof top products is right for you is the tricky part. Here are a few key considerations.

Key Considerations when selecting a Roof Top Carrier

-- First things first, check the Thule and Yakima Fit Guides to see if there are any compability issues for your vehicle. If you've got a factory roof top rack, you may need to buy some roof rack accessories to ensure it will work with Thule and Yakima roof carriers. If you've got a Thule or Yakima roof rack already, it's still a good idea to check the Fit Guides, as they will inform you which carriers and bags will fit with your base rack system.
-- Once you're aware of any fit issues, the next consideration for most customers is price. Roof Carriers can get expensive, with most running from $300 to $500 or more. Roof Racks are quite a bit more affordable while Roof Bags are the most affordable solution: some weather resistant roof top cargo bags can be found for as little as $40.
-- From there, you're well on your way to finding the right carrier for your needs. All of the roof carrier, roof rack and roof bag products listed in this section are from noted manufacturers and have been put to the test for many years. We've tried to narrow your options down to the best of the best; now get to shopping!

More information about Thule Racks and Yakima Racks

The products listed in this section are not the only products offered for the roof by Thule Racks and Yakima Racks. Aside from these products, Thule also manufactures Thule roof top bike racks, Thule Roof Base Rack Systems, Thule Ski and Snowboard Roof Racks, and Thule Kayak, Canoe and Surfboard Racks.

Similarly, Yakima Racks also offers Yakima roof top bike racks, Yakima Roof Base Rack Systems, Yakima Ski and Snowboard Roof Racks, and Yakima Canoe, Kayak and Surfboard Racks.

Thule and Yakima roof top products generally work as a system: if you want to carry a roof carrier, you will need a roof base rack that supports two load bars that run along the roof of your vehicle. The roof carrier will then attach to these load bars. You will also be able to attach a roof cargo bag, a roof basket, or a car top bike rack. In many cases, Thule and Yakima racks and carriers are interchangeable: depending on your vehicle, and assuming you have Thule load bars or Yakima crossbars setup, you can mix and match your racks and carriers depending on what you need to carry! This makes a Thule car rack or a Yakima roof car rack a great investment: the same base rack can be used in the summer for transporting bikes and in the winter for transporting skis.
