Most Popular Roof Boat Rack Accessories
1. Pads -- Both Yakima and Thule make cushioned pads for your roof rack's crossbars or loadbars. Yakima calls them Crossbar Pads; Thule calls them Sailboard Pads. We recommend these for carrying any craft that needs a little extra cushion to protect against scraping: surfboards, sailboards, etc.
2.Locks -- Similar to a locking cable that you might use on a bicycle or bicycle rack, Yakima makes the Boat Locker, which will run through your roof top rack and attach to your canoe or kayak, securing your boat to your rack. Nothing ruins a nice day on the lake like a stolen boat! The Yakima Boat Locker is 10 feet long, plenty of length for just about any watercraft out there.
3. Straps -- You can't go wrong with any of the straps offered by Thule or Yakima, as they provide an added element of stability as you drive with your large boat on top of your vehicle's roof rack. However, we do recommend checking out Thule's Quickdraw Boat Ratcheting system, which makes securing your boat to your roof rack about as easy as it can be.
4. Rollers -- If you're looking for something truly innovative, check out Yakima's Hully Roller Boat Rollers, which make loading your boat onto your roof rack much easier. It is a common problem: how do I get this huge boat all the way up on the top of my roof? Yakima's Hully Rollers let you slide your boat onto the rollers, which provide additional momentum to help your boat get all the way on to the top of your vehicle. Once your boat is up on the roof rack, the Rollers lock in place to secure the boat!
